MODERN

Modern Theatre dance is often seen on the stages of musical productions and is known for its theatrical qualities. Developing style and performance, as well as working on technique, means this style of dance is accessible to any young performer. The style uses travelling steps, high kicks, leaps, and turns. This is a highly energetic dance style making it lots of fun and a perfect outlet for energetic dancers!

Candidates build from their sound technique, by developing the physical ability to communicate through movement in an expressive and artistic way. A clearly defined structure allows learning to take place in the context of safe dance practice. The Graded Examinations build up progressively, ensuring that steps and skills learned at lower levels prepare for more complex movements as the candidate progresses. The Graded Examinations in Modern Theatre Dance also allow for those participating solely for recreational purposes to produce quality work in a safe dance context

Whether you like to be a Little Bit Naughty like Matilda, want to Build a Snowman with Elsa or are a little older and want to learn hits from shows like The Greatest Showman or Dear Evan Hansen then our Musical Theatre classes are for you!

Intermediate Contemporary

Contemporary dance is a style of expressive that combines elements of several dance genres including ballet, jazz, hip hop and lyrical. In class, we focus on the technical elements followed by a creative task involving choreography or improvisation. Contemporary evolves to remain contemporary to the time, it is very open-minded and accessible to an individual's natural form. Contemporary is a creative outlet that balances freedom of movement with instruction, rules and discipline. There are several prominent features within the style some of which are, tilts, contractions, high release, fall and roll.

Intermediate dancers explore different choreographic methods. They learn to express themselves in a versatile manner with the understanding that everything created in class is relevant - they are an individual and their work must be too. The use of breath is a key aspect that is spoken about a lot during class. Floorwork is taught, making each dancer feel at ease rolling across the floor
