2-5 YEAR OLDS
TINY STARS - 2-3 YEARS OLD
In our Tiny Stars classes, we always have a theme to keep the children engaged. The theme will be changed each month to avoid boredom. Our aim at this age is to intrude the children to a playful, creative fun environment. The music we use for these classes helps the children use their imagination to transport them to different worlds; one week we are flying to the moon, then we are going to the beach and swimming with jellyfish. We also have themes which go along with the holiday like Christmas, Easter and Halloween.
The children will learn how to control and move their body to music, focusing on spacial awareness. We use props to keep the children engaged in all of our sessions.
LITTLE STARS - 3-4 YEARS OLD
Once the children have learnt the basics form our Tiny Stars classes they move on to Little Stars. Whilst the themes are the same we work a lot more on technique and start teaching the correct ballet terminology. This ensures a smooth transition to Pre-Syllabus. We work on counting beats and moving in time to the music.
The children are encouraged and praised throughout each class to ensure they experience a positive, fun learning environment in order to develop foundational dancing skills.
PRE-SYLLABUS BALLET, TAP AND MODERN - 4-5 YEARS OLD
This class offers children the opportunity to discover dance and creative movement as a source of exercise and fun whilst engaging with other children of their own age. Children are encouraged to interact and share ideas with each other, improving their communication, listening and social skills. Dance is a highly physical form of exercise and will contribute to your child’s health and wellbeing as well as promoting good posture, balance, and coordination.
During each 45-minute session, children are introduced to classical ballet, tap and modern dance. The variety of movement they encounter will open their eyes to the world of dance, developing their imaginations and encouraging them to try new things.
At the end of their time in this grade, children are invited to take part in a formal ballet exam. Whilst there is no pressure to participate, this process provides recognition for the children’s achievements throughout the year and teaches them to overcome nervous energy, developing self-confidence and the ability to perform in front of others.
PRE-PRIMARY BALLET & PRE-PRIMARY TAP AND MODERN, 5-6 YEAR OLDS
Although this grade is a progression from the Pre-Syllabus sessions, it is still suitable for absolute beginners. In these classes, children are encouraged to express their emotions and ideas in a caring environment whilst balancing the joy and freedom of movement with instruction and rules. Alongside the physical benefits of dance, your child will begin to learn self-control and self-motivation as they try to master new movements and styles.
Classes at Pre-Primary level are split into two sessions. 30 minutes to focus on classical ballet technique, the foundation for most other styles of dance, and then 30 mins split between tap and modern dance. This exposure to a variety of dance forms and rhythms sparks imagination and can lead to children improvising their own routines and movements and developing their creative nature.
As children reach the end of Pre-Primary they are invited to take part in two exams, one in Ballet and one in Tap. There is no pressure for the children to take part in the exam process but it is a useful way of getting them ready to overcome nerves and building their self-confidence which will stand them in good stead when they begin taking academic tests at school.
